In the waters of Memory

A mother and her daughter, facing the ocean, immersed in gestures that transcend time. They enter a dance that navigates between memories and forgetfulness. Memories etched onto Super 8 film. A new reverie unfolds, in the delicate texture of handcrafted images that emerge in the light like so many reminiscences rising from the depths of a vast Memory. How far back can I remember?

A roll of Super 8 film can record 2 minutes and 30 seconds of footage. During each creative residency for the performance Souviens-toi d’avant l’aube, we shot one, two, or three rolls of film, asking ourselves: what do we remember about the work in these few minutes of memory? What are the images, the moments that remain, that are imprinted in the wax of our memories—here, film onto which fragments of light are deposited?

From these traces, the daydreams, and the images they evoked, a 24-minute film took shape: Dans les eaux de Mémoire.
