Fabrice Leroy

Director

For more than thirty years, since founding ED Distribution, Fabrice has been dedicated to promoting auteur and independent cinema that offers a different perspective. He has introduced French audiences to directors such as Guy Maddin, Bill Plympton, Andrew Kötting, and Teresa Villaverde. He directed his first feature film, À l’aube du vulvolithique, a documentary about Claudius de Cap Blanc—an outsider artist and creator of the Affabuloscope—for which he received support from SCAM; the film will be released in theaters starting in July 2020. He continues his cinematic research with Le Pied du loup, a poetic and artisanal feature film shot entirely on Super 8 film. He documents every stage of the production process for the performance Souviens-toi d’avant l’aube on camera, particularly using Super 8. Drawing on the material gathered during each residency, he gradually wrote the poetic film—or “cinematic reverie”—Dans les eaux de Mémoire, which constitutes the third creation of the multifaceted Mémoire(s) project. He is currently working on a new feature-length film, this time on 16mm color film, set in the Monédières mountain range in Corrèze.
